Is Oshabe really free?
Yes. There is no account, no subscription and no usage limit.
Oshabe is open source under the MIT licence.
Does a bot join my Zoom, Meet or Teams call?
No. Oshabe records the audio playing on your own computer next
to your microphone, so no one sees an extra attendee. Recording
laws differ by country, so tell people when you take notes.
Does my audio get uploaded?
No. Speech recognition runs on your computer. For meetings
Oshabe saves only the transcript text and never keeps the
recording.
Do I need an API key, an account or Ollama?
No. A built-in offline model handles cleanup and summaries. You
can switch to Ollama or your own provider in Settings.
Which systems does it support?
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit and ARM), macOS on Apple Silicon and
Intel, and Linux as AppImage, deb and rpm.
Can I export the notes to Word or PDF?
Yes. Each meeting exports to .docx or PDF. You can also set old
notes to delete themselves after a number of days you choose.
Why does my English sometimes come out in another language?
Automatic language detection can guess wrong on accented speech.
Set the language to English in Settings and Oshabe stays in
English.
Who makes Oshabe?
Hikari Webworks in
Hyderabad, India. It is a fork of the open-source
Handy project,
released under the MIT licence.
